Chasing Highs
This weekend a friend of mine warned me about chasing highs and how you should stop to enjoy the simple things in life rather than endlessly chasing what you hope to be more. This made me think a lot about life and what we're all meant to be doing here. Of course he was referring to drug induced highs. But I think being high can also be achieved naturally through certain life experiences. Either way, regardless of where the high came from, his advice got me thinking. I realized that I think way too much about the future and I spend too much time planning for things that will never happen. It's unhealthy when people get addicted to the rushing, euphoric high they feel. Instead, the high should have calming properties that allow you to thoroughly enjoy everyday pleasures. My friend was talking about how dangerous it is to chase these unknown highs. It's unhealthy because your body begins to crave more and more of what it can never achieve. I think that's how people get deeply addicted to serious drugs. However, drugs should be used to enhance the simple things in life. For example, you should be able to find joy in watching things and just sitting and reflecting or spending time with people or talking to a loved one or picking at the grass or staring at the skies or listening to music or humming new melodies. Don't go chasing that empty high that's further away than you think.
